Blood in the Hay (Day 4 & 5)

Yesterday morning I went out to feed my bunny. I just happened to glance down at the pile of hay that the baby bunnies were sleeping it. I noticed some blood around the hole and that some of the fur and hay had been ruffed up and moved. I looked inside and found only one sleeping bunny. He was all curled up and snuggled in the fur that his mother lane down for him. I held him for a while just letting him snuggle and push his way around on my hands; his little ears lay against his head and his little body all curled up in a little ball. I lade his back in his nest and left him for the night.

This morning the hay had been ruffed, but the blood was gone, because I replaced it with new hay. I looked down to see the little baby bunny all snuggled and sleeping, but he was not there. The mother was not there either this morning, only the empty hay. The fur the mother plucked off her belly just for the little bunnies to sleep there was all that was left. There was no tracks of a cat of dog. I believe it was a coyote. They are such vile things, but I should not jump to conclusions. I know there are stray cats in my neighborhood, so it could have been one of them. All the same, I'm sad and grieved that I couldn't watch the little ones grow and live safely in my backyard. But I can't change the past.

    In the Hay(Day 1)

So yesterday I went out side to see my bunny, Beowulf. He had a bunny friend visit, but I scared it away. (Please note my rabbit's cage is several feet from the ground.) (But don't worry! If he jumps, if I accidentally leave the doors open, he won't get hurt.) Well, anyways, this morning I had quite a surprise. There were little baby bunnies in the hay under his cage. There eyes are not yet open, but they are big. Well of course they're big. Wild rabbits are bigger then my bunny by far! They were born sometime yesterday afternoon. (Note: It was in the afternoon that I went out to see my bunny yesterday. So they were most likely already born, but I just didn't notice that they were there. And Beowulf "friend" was the Momma rabbit that I scared...But DON'T get the wrong idea...) Well here are some pictures:

Aren't they cute! (I'll keep you up dated!)
